Jeremiah Dalton: 00:05 My name’s Jeremiah Dalton. My company is Suffolk County House Buyers. We’re a real estate investment company. We typically buy homes mostly off market. The main crux of our business is we buy, we renovate and we resell homes. The big thing is, I spent my whole life doing things that I was asked to do. I went to school, I got a good education, I got the typical job that I was expected to, I made a good living. I was supporting my family, everything from that end was going great. But deep down inside I was miserable. Because at the end of the day, I wasn’t doing what I really love to do. And doing this, taking homes, taking the ugliest home on the block and making it the nicest home, was something I’ve always wanted to do.
Jeremiah Dalton: 00:50 I think the big thing, what brought me into real estate which is, it just always been a passion of mine. And it was something that I thought, there was always a part of me that thought I would never do it. I think at the end of the day, the opportunity to work with sellers who for one reason or another need a quick offer to cash themselves out, to take a home such as this house, which believe it or not, you couldn’t even walk in here at one point. It was littered with so much garbage. And to take that home and restore it and bring out its full potential, those are just the things that [inaudible 00:01:22] I get so much satisfaction. Yes, as [inaudible 00:01:27] as it is or crazy as it is to say this, it’s not really about the money. It’s about being able to do the things that really just fire me up.
Jeremiah Dalton: 01:38 Well, for me, one of the biggest success stories we’ve had is just being able to deliver homes to people that they haven’t been able to find on the open market. So we’ve had situations where buyers have found us before a house has actually hit the market while we’re working and renovating it. And at the end of it, were able to negotiate a price that makes sense for me that they’re comfortable with paying and it allows them to get into the home of their dreams. So when you can deliver that product to people and they’re happy with the end result, that’s the kind of thing that ultimately at the end of the day, makes it so fulfilling.
Jeremiah Dalton: 02:13 The biggest service that we deliver, because we have two sets of clients, is we have the homeowners that we buy from and then we have the buyers that we ultimately sell to. So for the homeowners, we offer a very smooth and fast closing. For the buyers, we’ll work with them from start to finish to make sure that every aspect of the house, because unfortunately, and for good reason, a lot of flip homes have a negative stereotype. So we’ll work with them to make sure that every loose end is taken care of and that they’re 100% comfortable with buying the home, that they may raise their family and for decades at a time.
Jeremiah Dalton: 02:49 What I love about the real estate business is that at the end of it all, it’s just something that not many people get the opportunity to do what they day in and day out. Like I said before, yes you want to make a living doing this, but what fires me up, I have a newborn right now. I haven’t slept at all, if you could believe it, but I still woke up this morning fired up, ready to go because I’m doing something that always wanted to do. And I don’t think many people get that opportunity. So being in the real estate business, working with people, whether it’s working with my contractors, the sellers, the buyers, it’s ultimately about problem solving.
Jeremiah Dalton: 03:27 Now I’m living life on my own terms. And so even my worst days in this business, there’re still hands down 10 times better than my best days in my previous work. Some of the things I’ve learned is that, everyone has different viewpoints. At the end of it, this home, I love how it came out. I think it’s styled beautifully. I think the kitchen is great, but you know what, you can have somebody come in and just have a different opinion and can’t really take it personal. There’s just so many people have different ways of doing things and because I work with so many different people, whether it’s the brokers that sell my houses, whether it’s the contractors that renovate them, whether it’s the sellers that I buy from or the buyers that I sell to, really at the end of it, everyone’s got a different viewpoint.
Jeremiah Dalton: 04:11 And so you have to look and you have to almost undergo a paradigm shift and see things from their viewpoint. Because I’m basing my decisions off of my experiences, but at the end of the day, they have their own sets of experiences. I think at the end people who meet me, I’m a very intense guy. Okay. And the reason I’m intensive is because I just love what I do. So when you have that fire in you, sometimes it comes off and it could be a turnoff to people. But I think people realize, if you understand my passion behind it, you know that I’m going to work with you and I’m going to be as fair as I possibly can. And that’s really at the end of it, what I want people to know is that, yeah, you know what, he’s always on his A game. He’s always on. He’s always pushing things to the extent that he can, do you know what, he’s always fair and he always is able to work it out.
Jeremiah Dalton: 05:05 Being in this position of, when I look around and I see this house, for a lot of people they see a great finished product. For me what motivates me is just the process. Fix and flipping, it’s a job. It’s not a get rich quick scheme. But for a lot of people, and quite frankly, there’s a lot of better ways to make money, especially in real estate. You can do rentals, multifamily, Airbnb. I mean, the opportunities are endless. But for me, this has always just been my passion. So not to say that those other things I would never do, but this is really my true love.
Jeremiah Dalton: 05:41 So when I wake up and I go to properties and I see what they start off as and now I see what they turn out as, for me there’s really just no better reward. Now I’ve got the opportunity to make a good living, live life on my own terms, but also do something I love. I mean, to be able to get up and take a home, that’s the ugliest house in the block and make it the nicest home, or just sit down and have an interview and hopefully inspire someone else who is in a similar position to me, who worked really hard. They’re in a job, they’re making a great living, but now they’re stuck. They’ve got a family, they’ve got a wife, they’ve got kids, and they don’t know how to transition to something that they truly wanted to do.
